Concentrations

What causes addictive behavior—and who’s most at risk? Learn to understand and identify it, while exploring effective prevention strategies. This specialization is particularly suited for students interested in becoming addiction counselors.
Through a theoretical lens, examine contemporary influences on the biological and behavioral maturation of this age group, from (cyber)bullying to substance abuse.
Study contemporary justice systems to understand how they affect both criminal offenders and victims of crime.
Explore theories and principles of leadership development, and analyze the ethical considerations facing today’s public, private, and nonprofit leaders.
Examine the physical, mental, and environmental causes that can affect behavior. Evaluate the latest research methods used to study human behavior.

Adult students who hold a high school diploma or its equivalent will be considered for admission. Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria:

  • You are 21 years of age or older.
  • You are under 21 years of age with 12 quarter credit hours.
  • You are an active member of the military or a veteran with documentation of service.
  • You are concurrently enrolled in an approved partner institution with an articulation agreement with Walden.

Enrollment Restrictions by State

Walden currently cannot enroll residents of the following states/districts into the BS in Human Services program: New Mexico and Wisconsin.
