Frequently asked questions

  • How do I choose the right degree for me?

Network and talk to people in your chosen career field. Get advice from supervisors, mentors, family members, or friends and see which degree program they would recommend based on your goals. Do some research online to find the latest employment trends and potential earnings for your career field so that you have a full picture of your career and income potential.

If you have previously earned credits toward a degree, find out each degree program’s options for transferring your credits. Some universities might accept more of your credits than others, which can ultimately help you save money and time in earning your degree. Talk to enrollment advisors at each university to assess your options and opportunities for financial aid. Compare the pros and cons of each of your options, and choose the degree program that feels right for you.

  • Why should I pursue my degree online?

If you are well-organized, self-motivated, comfortable with online technology, and like to work independently, an online degree program might be the right fit for you. Today’s online courses use the latest learning technologies to deliver course content and connect you with classmates all over the world. Online courses also offer the advantage of flexible schedules, enabling you to complete your coursework at any time that is convenient for you.

Having independence and flexibility doesn’t mean that, as an online student, you are on your own. Online degree programs are designed to support your progress by offering communication with faculty and class forums to exchange ideas and foster a sense of community.

With good time management strategies and a strong work ethic, many working adult learners find that online classes can offer them the most efficient, convenient path to earning a degree.

  • How is pursuing a degree at Walden different from at other institutions?

Our support services are what set us apart. They are designed specifically for the working adult online student. Our support services include writing and research support, career services, enrollment and financial advising, and 24-hour technical support.

Walden University is an accredited institution with more than 45 years of experience helping working professionals earn their advanced degrees—without leaving the workforce. Our students include adult learners from all 50 U.S. states and 155 countries around the world. Walden is dedicated to providing a high-quality education with curriculum developed by experts, industry leaders, and employers. At Walden, you can gain practical, relevant skills that can help you excel in your career field and create positive social change.

  • Is Walden accredited?

Walden University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission, www.hlcommission.org. In 2013, the university’s accreditation status was reaffirmed for the maximum period of 10 years. This accreditation attests to Walden’s dedication to student-centered learning, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. Several of our programs also hold program-specific accreditation.

Because Walden is accredited, our students can access federal (and sometimes state-level) financial aid. The university’s accreditation also helps our students and alumni transfer their credits to other academic institutions, and can serve as a sign of credibility to employers who are interviewing and hiring Walden graduates.

  • How long does it take to earn a degree?

Completing your degree may take between 3 and 7 years depending on your program of study, individual progress, credits transferred, full-time or part-time enrollment status, grades (course retakes), and whether you take any leaves of absence during your program.

For graduate students, full-time status means being registered for six credits per quarter or semester. Part-time status means being registered for three to five credits.

  • How much will my degree program cost?

The cost of a degree program depends on the length of the program, cost per credit, specialization options, amount of transfer of credit received, and whether you attend full time or part time.

Request information today on the program of your choice to speak with an enrollment advisor about costs, duration, and funding options.

  • What are the financing options?

We understand that many students are looking for the best options for paying for their education. As a Walden student, you’ll find a number of resources to help fund your education, including federal financial aid, grants, loans, and scholarships. We also offer special tuition savings based on the degree program you choose as well as some special savings options depending on your organizational partnerships or other affiliations.

Visit our Admissions and Financial Aid page for more information. If you choose to use federal financial aid, you can apply through the FAFSA website.

  • How do I apply?

To apply for admission to Walden University, submit a Walden application and provide relevant background information such as employment history, official transcripts from any colleges or universities that you previously attended, applicable test scores, and a list of any transfer credits.

The exact enrollment criteria may vary, depending upon your college and degree program of choice. A Walden enrollment advisor can guide you through the enrollment process and answer any questions along the way.

  • What are the admission requirements?

Admission requirements vary depending on your degree program of choice. In general, Walden seeks to admit adult learners who can benefit from online learning and who are most likely to make significant contributions in their classes and in their professional careers.

Admission to Walden is based upon a review of a variety of factors, such as your academic record and relevant work experience, as well as (for graduate programs) your goal statement. Learn more.
